About an hour North of Puerto Vallarta, there’s a small fishing village named Punta De Mita. Its claim to fame is the so called ‘pirada’ pango boats that make runs to the Playa Del Amor in the Islas Marietas. These islands are a marine reserve with water fertile for snorkeling, jarring cliffs that host shelter to rare birds and most notably, a hidden beach. Dubbed the beach of love, but really just a coincidental relic of military bomb testing that nature morphed into a haven of wonder. But that’s a different story.
Look past the most popular destination in the area, and you will find miles of mostly uninhabited, secluded, premo coastline. Standing on one of the gettys in Punta De Mita and looking South, a half dozen empty beaches stare back at you, waiting to be explored.

Some of the beaches have names you can Google but there are others you won’t find on any map. It’s best to go during low tide as some of the smaller beaches are inaccessible at high tide. But nothing good is easy. The hard to reach beaches are easily the best.

The most recognizable beach on the strip is called La Lancha. It’s popular with surfers and is extremely flat. You can easily go 100 ft in the water and not be 6 feet deep.
We passed so many good spots to set up shop in search of something undisturbed by man.

Our patience paid off and we were rewarded with our own private beach. Some of the areas along the cliffs had formed natural caves that proved to be very hospitable to human life.

The caves had everything you could ask for on a beach. Privacy, shade, relief from the heat of the hot Mexican ☀️, even shelves.

I felt like a pilgrim on the maiden voyage of the Santa Maria. I even hung a flag to make a claim on our newly discovered land. Knowing that when the tide rises, all the steps we made in the sand would wash away.. made it special.

We had been to a couple other beaches in the area but as soon as we discovered this place we knew it would be tough to find better. We went back 3 times in 1 week.
Highly recommended for the romantic adventurer. 9/10
